From those who had entered the studio thinking that a "downward facing dog" was a prostrate puppy to the certified yoga instructors among us, new and experienced Urban Girl Squad yogis joined together on May 18 at the Upper West Side's Pure Yoga to practice for a great cause. Led by vinyasa instructor Pam Reece, we posed (and fell!) on our mats in order to raise funds for Gilda's Club, the premier organization supporting cancer patients and their families in New York City. Participants raised nearly $2,000 in support of this fantastic organization, an incredible sum for Urban Girl Squad's first fundraiser. Following the open-level class that challenged yoga practitioners new and old, members--while refreshing themselves with eucalyptus-scented towels-- had a chance to chat, bid on amazing silent auction prizes, and enjoy refreshing beverages and all-natural baked goods supplied by Broadway Baker. Urban Girl Squad wants to thank Pure Yoga for their generous donation of space, instruction, gift bags, and auction prizes, and Gilda's Club (especially Associate Board members Jamie Klimberg and Michelle Chernoff) for their logistical support in creating this fantastic event.
