Amanda says: Go nude! How to stop being a makeup zombie

If you’re anything like I was when I worked in the 9-5 corporate world, then when you get ready in the morning (feeling like a zombie), you slap on the same makeup in the same way that you always wear it. Sure, maybe you change up the color a bit or try a new brand, but your daytime makeup look is basically the same every single day. I was such a makeup zombie back then that one day when I decided to not wear eyeliner, my colleague asked me if I was feeling okay. I felt fine. I just wasn’t wearing eyeliner. It felt terrible.

When you wear makeup all the time, then your natural face starts to look funny to you. Sallow, boring, bla. That’s a little messed up, right?

When I left my corporate job to work on UGS full-time, I found that I could vary my wardrobe and makeup look widely for different situations (gym clothes and a ponytail for late nights behind the computer, glam makeup and a cocktail dress for swanky meetings). And big shift happened: I started to get used to the way my face looked without makeup. When this change happens, you can start having fun with makeup again, because everything will look glam and dressed up to you on your face.

Give it a try for a few days and notice the exciting transformation when (if!) you begin to add makeup back in again. If you’re not comfortable going to work without makeup, then play with this at night or on the weekends. If you’re going out to meet the girls for brunch, go nude! Your friends will love you, eyeliner or no (my former colleague aside).

Here’s a photo of me sans makeup (with little miss Ella!):

Makeup is FUN! Don’t be a slave to it by doing the same thing again and again. You have a pretty face (I know it without seeing you), so let your natural beauty shine through every now and again. And when you’re ready to play with makeup, check out my friend Julia’s new blog on makeup, Brush Beauty Love. (I especially like this post on how to rescue broken eyeshadow.)

Join UGS next week for a workshop on Day-to-Night Fashion and Hair Styling with Roni. You’ll learn how to easily transform your hair and clothes from day to night (the makeup is up to you). We’re throwing in champagne, cupcakes, and gift bags, so get your tix today before they sell out!

We want to see YOU “go nude!”. Post your photo to our facebook wall so that we can see your pretty face!
